Our trails will lead you through a jumble of stacked boulders that defy gravity\, while creating bizarre shapes and formations left to the imagination. The rock piles began underground eons ago as a result of volcanic activity. Magma\, in this case a molten form of monzo-granite\, rose from deep within the Earth. As it rose\, it intruded into the overlying rock\, the Pinto gneiss formation. As the granite cooled and crystallized underground\, cracks formed horizontally and vertically. The granite continued to lift\, where contact with groundwater caused angular granite blocks\, widening cracks and rounded edges. Eventually\, the soil eroded\, leaving heaps of monzogranite scattered across this unique high desert landscape. \n \nHiking Guidelines:\n \n\nCarry plenty of water for the duration you intend to hike! The general recommendation is one liter per person for every two hours of hiking.\nThe sun can be very intense here in the southern California inland high desert\, so be sure to wear suitable attire\, including a hat\, sunglasses\, and sunscreen.\nDogs are allowed on trails\, however they must be leashed and cleaned up after at ALL times.\nDue to uneven ground\, thorny bushes and plants\, and cholla on the trails\, it is always recommended that you wear hiking boots or other sturdy trail shoes.\nPicking flowers or plants on the DeAnza Springs property\, or in Anza-Borrego State Park or the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) areas is strictly prohibited.\n\n \nTrail Precautions:\n\nThis area has little-to-no cell service\, especially on a majority of the hiking trails through and around the property. Please keep this in mind as you are planning your experience here\, and be prepared in the event of an emergency.\nRattlesnakes are native to this area\, and we ask that you remain aware as you traverse the land. They are more active during the warmer months\, but can be witnessed at any time of the year.\nCarry a compass. Even if you feel you have an excellent sense of direction\, it is highly recommended.
