About Queen Bee’s & Venue History
A Historic Venue in North Park, San Diego
Since 2008, Queen Bee’s has been more than just an event space – it has been a center for creativity, community, and culture in North Park, San Diego. Housed in one of the first buildings ever constructed in North Park, this venue carries a rich history while serving as a dynamic space for modern events.
Queen Bee’s, located at 3925 Ohio St., has been a cornerstone of the community since the 1920s. Originally a Dixie Line, the building played a crucial role in providing construction materials that helped shape North Park and surrounding neighborhoods. After a stint as a 99-cent store, Queen Bee’s took possession when the building was on the brink of condemnation, transforming it into a vibrant space for artists, musicians, and families in the 2000s.
Over the years, Queen Bee’s has hosted thousands of events, from weddings and quinceañeras to live concerts, art exhibitions, and nonprofit fundraisers. The venue’s unique character blends vintage charm with modern versatility, making it a go-to destination for both intimate gatherings and large-scale productions.

Alma’s journey in creating Queen Bee’s is one of passion, dedication, and a deep love for bringing people together. From the very beginning, she envisioned a space where creativity, celebration, and community could thrive.
More than just an event venue, Queen Bee’s became a place where memorable experiences are crafted with care and attention to detail. With extensive experience in event planning, budgeting, promotion, and logistics, Alma understands that the success of an event goes far beyond what happens on stage.
She has built a team that helps clients navigate every step of the planning process, ensuring that each event – whether it’s a wedding, business meeting, concert, or private gathering – feels effortless and extraordinary.
Alma’s vision for Queen Bee’s extends beyond private events. From day one, she has been a champion for local musicians, artists, and performers, opening the venue’s doors to a diverse range of concerts, spoken-word events, and community gatherings. Her belief in the power of art and culture to uplift individuals and create positive change is at the heart of Queen Bee’s mission.
In 2013, Queen Bee’s marked its fifth anniversary, a milestone that highlighted just how much the venue had grown beyond Alma’s initial expectations. Under her leadership, Queen Bee’s had already hosted over 100 nonprofit fundraisers, community initiatives, and cultural events, solidifying its place as a cultural hub in San Diego. From art exhibitions and dance classes to live performances and private celebrations, Queen Bee’s remains a space where inclusivity, creativity, and community come together.
